The Titanic Tide
Political stakes maybe high
But so are the forces that rig the die
For we are all caught in the rat race
The Great Consumer Chase
Producing
And pumping
Consuming
And dumping
Our landfill sites chock full of waste
Or else stuck in gridlock haste
There is no way to cheat
To beat the forces of nature's warning
To defeat our sources of global warming
Unless we harness the POWER of NOW !!!
So Cast aside
Short - term political rides :
Green flagship
Policies that flip and slip
And must abandon ship
In the ruthless currencies
Of the economic seas
Of industries to please
Of fat cats to appease
CO2 omission targets
That are never met
Air travel expansion
Instead of sanctions
Trees uprooted to make way
For new branches of motorway
Fish caught inside the nets
Of extinction threats
No matter how much eco-debt
We collectively collect
We still expect the earth to feed
Our high-consuming energy needs
Humanity's destiny is rigged inside it's own curse
Steering itself towards the very worst
For unless we learn to put the earth first -
- We will all end up sailing on a ship
Set against a Titanic Tide
Destined to collide and capsize
With drifting icebergs melting by our side
