Canalside Destruction
7 am Thursday 15 June
- it is an earthquake ?
My whole house shakes
The vibrations last all day long
As the strong might of machinery
Claws down trees in it's jaws
Gripping and ripping the trunks
In tumbling rumbling grunts
Bird nests now lie on the rubble floor
And all other wildlife has been shown the door
There is also no respect for history
When the ancient river Lud is discovered
For within an hour the cavity is covered
This peaceful idyllic canal walk
Enjoyed and appreciated by so many
Is now a land -sore
The wildlife has been clawed
Away by the machinery that bores
Into the land - no doubt
Planning permission planned
For blocks of flats crammed
What about nature's rights ?
There is no fight to fight
When it is money that talks
Never mind our lovely walks
